The Creation Story

The Creation Story - Genesis, Abraham, Uchtdorf

Why Do We Have Three Different Accounts of the Creation?

God’s power and Christ’s Role in Genesis 1 & 2, Psalm, Ezekiel, Job, Moses, Abraham, 2nd Nephi

Genesis 1: Six days starting with light and ending with humans

Genesis 2: No mention of the number of days, starting with man, then Eden, plants, animals, woman

Ezekiel 28:12-19: “anointed cherub” - guardian who wore a breastplate like the high priest

Job: God laid the foundations of the earth, laid the measures, stretched the line, fastened the foundations, laid the cornerstone, shut up the seas with doors

Psalm 104: God created the earth by stretching out the heavens like a curtain, laying the beams of his chambers in the waters, laid the foundations of the earth, covering the earth with waters and setting bounds they cannot pass, appointing the moon for seasons

2nd Nephi - Lehi to children

Creation stories from Near Eastern cultures

In Genesis 1, God caused everything to come into existence simply by speaking, reminding us of the power of God.

Moses 2 makes it clear that Christ was the main figure responsible for the Creation. This reminds us of His central role from the beginning of the world to the end of it.

The Book of Abraham makes it explicitly clear that a divine council was involved in the creation of the earth, reminding us of the importance of councils in our own lives.
